Inktober – And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda

The forgotten heroes of a forgotten war. And the young people ask me, “what are they marching for?” And I ask myself the same question, and the band plays Waltzing Matilda.

I got on the bandwagon a little late for Inktober, but I’m going to do as many of these music pieces as I can throughout the month. All songs that I am illustrating arouse patriotism within myself, and weren’t written by a slave-owning lawyer. This song may be about Austrailian World War 1 veterans on the Turkish front. As an American, I can still relate and feel patriotic when hearing the woe of a soldier and the loss of innocence.

Miyazaki – Spoke Art Gallery

Spoke Art Gallery in New York’s Lower East Side opened it’s Miyazaki tribute show exhibition this last weekend. The show was as whimsical as anyone would expect from a gallery show relating to Miyazaki. The people who came out the opening of the exhibition ranged from art lovers, working illustrators, Miyazaki fans, and children. The magic that is drawn out in every featured Miyazaki film was shown not only in the artwork but on the faces of those who attended the show.
